NEUTRAL INTERMODAL SOLUTIONS FOR TURKISH FORWARDERS

Intercontainer Austria offers a stable service through an intermodal train running through Germany/Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Turkey in both directions and offers a stable service in order to connect Germany and Austria with Turkey.

Since January 2011 Intercontainer Austria, a 100 percent subsidiary of Rail Cargo Austria, the freight and logistics division of ÖBB, is connecting Germany and Austria with Turkey for environmental friendly freight transportation through an intermodal train twice a week. The trains from and to Austria need 5 days from loading to unloading and the respective terminals are Mannheim/Neuss/Duisburg in Germany, Wels, as well as Vienna in Austria and Halkali in Turkey.

The departure days in Vienna are Thursday and Saturday with arrival on Sunday and Tuesday night that allows unloading the train in the next morning. In Turkey the trains leave on Wednesday and Saturday arriving in Vienna on Monday and Wednesday. The train runs through Germany/Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Turkey in both directions and offers a stable service in order to connect Germany and Austria with Turkey, which is seen as the most important economic growth market for the next decade, not only concerning overall economic benchmarks but also concerning the transportation business.

Although Turkey is traditionally very strong and successful in road transportation, vessels and ROLA, unaccompanied intermodal transportation gains importance steadily. More and more Turkish forwarders invest in cranable equipment, opening up a new transportation segment for the Turkish transportation industry and allowing industry to improve their CO2 footprint by using rail transportation from and to Turkey. >>>
