U.N RO-RO INTERESTED IN ALL LINES EX-TURKEY

Gümüşoğlu states that they do not have plans for any lines that are outside of the Mediterranean basin or is not ex-Turkey. “We are interested in all north, south and westbound RO-RO lines. We will launch Istanbul-Constanza line in the upcoming days,” says Gümüşoğlu.

U.N RO-RO, having one of the youngest fleets of the world and offers a transport capacity of 300 thousand trailers a year by their 13 RO-RO ships and from their own ports, is about to open new lines. Sedat Gümüşoğlu, the new CEO of U.N RO-RO, informed INTERMODAL team about company’s 2010 performance, 2011 targets, works on new lines and projects.

Gümüşoğlu states that they increased their capacity by taking the delivery of Karadeniz and Akdeniz ships in 2008, which started very well.  “In the last quarter of 2008, big economic crises broke out. All of a sudden we experienced 30 percent decrease in transport numbers. That was an incredible drop for our sector,” says Gümüşoğlu. In order to utilize surplus capacity, U.N RO-RO brought the Mersin-Trieste line project forward. “We launched Mersin-Trieste line in March 2009 with one vessel and reached two ships in short time. When the demand for that line increased, we raised our weekly transport capacity from 400 vehicles to 480 vehicles,” explains Gümüşoğlu . >>>
